Ignorance.

So I had a Neurologist appointment today, and this is the guy who is supposed to be an "expert" in all of this sort of stuff, meaning fibro and all.

First off, I waited for 40 minutes because he was behind. (As per usual.) He finally comes in and asked me how I was doing and blah blah blah. He then told me to keep moving and keep pushing myself because my body will get used to it and build tolerance. And that was pretty much it. Literally a 5 minute appointment.

Now, the whole pushing yourself so that your body builds tolerance thing makes sense for the normal person. But let me say, if you know anything about fibro, you are NOT supposed to overdo it, because you can make yourself sicker. Or even worse, hurt yourself. What does this guy think? Does he really know NOTHING about fibro? Is he really that ignorant?

I guess its time to do some doctor searching again. *sigh*

  1. Sorry you had to go through this. I once had a doctor the same way. Waiting a long time just to say hi and buy and get nothing out of the brief appointment.

My doctors at OHSU give me a full hour if I need it with them. I will miss these types of appointments when I move to Illinois. So sorry you have not yet found a reliable doctor. This is an issue that needs to be addressed more. Ignorance and misinformation from sources they read instead of researching. ((hugs))

Hope things get better one day for all of us.

  2. What a jerk! I am sorry you went through this. I, too, am tired of waiting for doctors. If they can't schedule right, they shouldn't be doing the schedule. It drives me crazy and then to get 5 whole minutes! With him not even knowing what to do? I hope you get a new doctor soon that knows what is going on.

    I hope your day improves!

  3. Sorry, Sarah. My tip for you is to try to get the first appointment of the day. I try to schedule my doctor appointments for first thing so I don't have to take time off work. That way, there's usually little or no waiting for late appointments. The end of the day is the WORST!

Keep searching for a good doctor. One who doesn't listen to you is not good. I know it's a pain, but when you find him or her, it will be worth the research you do. Ask around, look online. What I like to do is search my insurance website for leads in my area. Then I google the doctors I like to see what's out there. Sometimes they have great websites, sometimes you find studies they've done, and sometimes you find patient reviews.

Good luck and hope you're having a good day today. :)
